Unlike most Greek islands, Crete is a 12-month destination. Due to its proximity to Africa, it enjoys a warm climate all year round, with extra warm temperatures during summer months. Of course, depending on the part of Crete you are on, the climate varies. The traditional mountainous villages are cool and breezy even during July and August, whereas the cities present a mild climate even in January.

The Cretan hospitality is legendary and has its roots deep into the ancient world, as the sense of hospitality was vital during the Minoan times. Cretans will treat you to the food on their table and will offer you raki (a strong local alcoholic distillate) but be aware that they may consider your “no, thank you” as disrespect.
